The first quarter of the 2026/27 business year is complete. Three major events delivered. One strategic conference attended. And a clear signal that the momentum behind TeamPolice – and behind officer wellbeing through sport – is only growing.
Here is what happened
Celebration of Police Wellbeing Through Sport — 21 January 2026
TeamPolice opened the 2026 calendar year at Virgin Media O2 Business in Paddington, bringing Chief Constables, senior officers, and key stakeholders together for an evening reception focused on what sport actually does for the people who protect our communities.
The event provided the backdrop for PolicingTV’s filming of Inside Team Police: Sport Saving Police Lives — a documentary capturing real testimonials from across the policing family. Grassroots football, boxing nights, Lake District memorial climbs in honour of fallen colleagues. The stories are powerful because they are real.
Featured partners PTSD999, Care of Police Survivors, and Light the Lakes were present on the night, each representing the wider ecosystem that makes sport such an effective vehicle for resilience and recovery.
PSUK Sports & Wellbeing Awards — 18 March 2026
The Milner York in York hosted the annual awards dinner in partnership with NPCC, and it delivered. Policing Minister Sarah Jones attended and addressed the room. CC Rachel Kearton (Suffolk) and CC Vanessa Jardine (Northumbria), Joint Chairs of Police Sport UK, opened the evening. NPCC Chair Gavin Stephens delivered closing remarks alongside David Shorland of Motorola Solutions.
The award winners:
- Sports Person of the Year (Salesforce): Rob Sparkes, Humberside — PSUK National Cross Country Champion and British Police Fell Race champion
- Team of the Year (XMA): Women’s National Police Football Team — European Championship semi-finalists and founders of the Four Nations tournament
- EDI Award (Sopra Steria): East Midlands Women’s Police Football Club — a five-force collaboration spanning Leicestershire, Nottinghamshire, Northamptonshire, Lincolnshire, and Derbyshire

Headline sponsorship from Motorola Solutions. Thanks also to boxxe, XMA, Magnet Forensics, Salesforce, Sopra Steria, and Nuix for their support on the night.
PSUK Men’s Rugby Finals Day — 22 April 2026
Sale FC Rugby at Heywood Road — a ground with history dating back to 1861 — hosted four finals across the day. South Wales took the Cup with a dominant performance in the headline match, claiming their fourth consecutive title. The Salver, Shield, and Plate competitions ran earlier in the afternoon, with each final showcasing what police rugby looks like at its competitive best.
Guest speakers Dean Richards and Dorian West joined the evening dinner alongside police seniors, reinforcing exactly the kind of leadership buy-in that makes these events more than just sport.
Sponsors: Salesforce (Cup), XMA (Shield), boxxe (Plate), Check Point Software Technologies (Tankard), Nutrient (Reception).
Strategic Engagement: BAPCO 2026 — 25-26 March 2026
TeamPolice attended BAPCO 2026 at Coventry Building Society Arena as both exhibitors and speakers. The conference theme — Promoting Wellbeing — reflected where the wider sector is heading, and our presence there was well-placed.
Bill Skelly QPM led the exhibition stand alongside David Fraser-Darling and Louise Gresham-Cullen from XMA. Bill also delivered a theatre presentation in Theatre A addressing the practical realities of embedding wellbeing culture within policing organisations — a session that drew strong engagement and positive reception from delegates.
BAPCO remains one of the most important events in the UK public safety calendar. The 2026 edition made that case again.
The Numbers
3 major events delivered. 1 strategic conference. 4 rugby finals. 10 active sponsors. 300,000+ officers supported through funded police sport initiatives.
